The New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees will take the requisite time to thoroughly analyze the Alward Government’s first budget.

From what we know from all previous first budgets, the full implications will be in the details provided by Department estimates provided in the weeks that follow March 22.

The Union has met with the Minister of Finance Blaine Higgs in five (5) separate meetings since January providing a wide range of possible initiatives to assist in developing solutions for the current “deficit gap”. To see the content of these meetings go to www.nbu.ca and read “Presentations To Finance Minister Higgs by N. B. Union”.

All New Brunswickers need to look at the Budget to see whether it:

· Provides a common sense approach that can lead us to pool our riches and share our common wealth for the common good of all, and

· Recognizes that our economic, social and environmental goals are inseparable, and that we are challenged not only to re-construct our economy, but to rebuild our society and communities.
