Local 362 Press Conference March 8 2011
Opening comment:
The Lock out of our Local 362 workers and families is now in the third week. We felt this was a good time to let you know how we are doing, and our plans for the near future.
Our union makes great beer and we are proud of it.
We want to get back to negotiations. Moosehead management continues to lock us out.
The support from the community has been tremendous:
- Constant parade of honks as people drive by the Lock Out line
- People throwing back the Alpine T-shirts at the Sea Dogs games and booing, yet still buying our union made and local product
- Our Facebook book group growing to just over 180 members with no promotion, just word of mouth
- The many donations of food and coffee
So, as we begin week 3 of the Lock Out our strategy remains straightforward:
- Buy Local … in buying local you are supporting the workers and their families who make Moosehead products
- Buy Fresh … the supply can only last so long
- Our Local and our families are closer and stronger … workers on different shifts have come to know each other on the Lock Out line
- Join our Facebook group Brewery Workers Local 362
- Let’s get back to the negotiating table
Closing Comment:
We are proud of the product we make. We want the company to be successful. Our Local 362 has grown closer and stronger. We continue to feel the support and love of the community of Saint John and other parts of the province.
We want to get back to the bargaining table and work out the solutions. In a family dispute you don’t throw family members onto the street … you sit down together … we make our best decisions when we make them together.
