The Fredericton Police Force is currently investigating a fraudulent bank scam which is making a re-occurrence in the Fredericton area.
Fraudsters, posing as bank investigators, are calling potential victims asking them to withdraw funds from their personal account and attend a meeting.
The victim will meet with the impostor at which point they are asked to turn their money over as part of a phoney bank investigation.
Fortunately, in the most recent case, the potential victim was aware that this was a scam and reported the activity to the police. As part of the March Fraud prevention month campaign, police are continuing to remind the public that these scams are occurring in our area and protecting our personal and financial information needs to be common place.
The public is reminded not to release personal or financial information to anyone who is not a trusted source. Anyone having information regarding frauds are encouraged to contact their local police force, or the Canadian Anti Fraud Center (Phone busters) at 1-888-495-8501.
